Should I teach Lapras surf? ›

Just teach Lapras Surf as soon as you find the HM. Although it's a Water type, Lapras can also learn Thunder or Thunderbolt from TMs. Both are great to round off the powerful Water and Ice attacks and make Lapras more unpredictable. Another good technique to have is Sing -- which puts your opponent to sleep.

Defeating Lapras in a Tier 3 Raid requires around 2-3 players, and will become easier the more players you have. It is possible to solo this raid if you are level 35+ and have a very good set of counter Pokémon.

Personally, I use Perish Song first. That way, if Lapras is KO'd before the Perish count ends, your opponent is forced to switch or get KO'd by Perish Song. If they switch right away, you'll end up trapping the next thing that comes out.

It doesn't last long but boosts water moves and makes thunder always hit which i plan on teaching my Lapras. Most enemy trainers only carry two or three pokemon anyways but i might want to compete in the battle mansion or whatever it's called.

It is important for Lapras to have Ice Beam since that is its main coverage. You can easily run one without Surf but in main game Surf is a great option since its powerful and has a decent amount of PP.

In a Double Battle, Surf hits both opposing Pokémon. Surf can be used as the first move of a Pokémon Contest combination, causing Dive to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn.

Lapras is soloable, but only with top, high level counters, so keep this in mind! It is a very tanky defender, so groups of 2-4 are recommended depending on player levels and available counters.

Lapras is best used as an early- or mid-game wallbreaker to punch holes in the opponent's team, and a good way to start doing so is bringing it in against slower and passive Pokemon such as Spiritomb.

Lapras is best used to matchup Dragonite as it is the strongest ice type pokemon in the game for its stat, but there are now many alternatives to slay the dragon, e.g. Tyranitar with Stone Edge or Blissey with Dazzling Gleam.
